Facebook Mobile - Access Facebook Anywhere

By Jeremy Winters

Facebook Mobile is a popular way for you to access common social network functions from an internet capable cell phone. It doesn't require smartphone access, unlike a lot of social networking applications, helping to make it more widely accessible. The Facebook login display may be located simply by pointing your cell phone's browser to m.facebook.com, and from there many options are immediately available.

Mobile Texts

The most basic options may be accessed without even opening the mobile phone browser. There are actually a number of code words which can be incorporated in a text to share information using Facebook Mobile. Text "@" and then the chosen update to FBOOK (32665) to change or revise a Facebook status. Transmit a definite name - for example John Smith - to look at that person's profile details. Text "note" accompanied by the desired body text to write a note. Send a wall post simply by texting "wall John Smith" and then the message of your post. Text "add John Smith" in order to send a brand new friend request. Send a poke simply by texting "poke John Smith."

Messages Tab

The chat feature will not show up on the cell phone browser the exact same way it does on a computer browser, but is still useful. Rather than appearing at the bottom right of your screen, brand new chat messages will show up beneath the "Messages" tab. In the event that Facebook texting is enabled, chat messages will be sent to the phone inbox in the form of a message, and may be responded to quickly simply by replying to the text. Different chat conversations can be launched through opening up the "Messages" tab located in the cell phone browser and choosing "Start a new Message." As an alternative, new discussions could be started simply by texting "msg John Smith," along with the message body, to FBOOK.

Photos Tab

Current pictures can be viewed under the "Photos" tab in your browser, but new photos can be added also. Access the tab, select the "Upload Photos" link and then click "Choose File" in order to upload a photo that already is accessible on your phone. When desired, then add text in the "Caption" box below, and then select "Upload." As soon as your photo is uploaded to the account, it may be selected for a profile photo by viewing it and choosing "Make Profile Picture," although it can't be edited or cropped by mobile phone the way it could on a personal computer.

Settings Tab

A lot of settings can't be changed using mobile, but the most widely edited setting, privacy, may be accessed by selecting the "Settings" tab. These privacy settings are split up into sharing and standard directory categories. Privacy sharing settings impact who can see wall posts and profile details, and standard directory settings have an effect on how a profile is found in the directory, and whether or not non-friends can contact or send friend requests to your account.

All of these features are totally free, however cell providers could charge a fee for internet access, data sharing or text messaging. Facebook Mobile Texting is only accessible in the US and Canada, however the internet browser functions at m.facebook.com can be accessed anywhere.
