What Makes a Luxury Holiday?

By Hollie Webster

The main focus of any luxury holiday is invariably the accommodation. A hotel is often judged by the facilities it provides which is usually a reliable evaluation. Facilities such as health club, spa, dining, internet, wi-fi are included. They make the stay more tolerable and where these facilities excel, more luxurious. Boutique hotels tend to cater for all of these facilities and more. They also tend to be individually styled which can provide a unique experience to the traveller.

Another difference in boutique and regular hotels is that they are no managed on the scale than chain hotels and don't have as many rooms. This allows a boutique hotel to implement a more personal character with regards to its look. The Lan Kwai Fong hotel in Hong Kong, for example, blends a traditional Chinese look with modern dcor. This may seem small but can go a long way in creating a more luxurious feel.

It is typically the luxurious accommodation coupled with an exotic location which makes for a truly luxurious holiday. A hotel not dissimilar to the one mentioned above is the Bo Phut boutique hotel which conveys an aspect of its Thai surroundings and on the whole offers quite the outdoor experience. You can adore the sun and the backdrop from the comfort of your own jacuzzi or private garden.

Where the hotel is situated also plays an important role. Boutique hotels may act as a luxury resort or an isolated retreat. They are often included in tailor-made holidays or honeymoons. Waking up on the beach the night after your wedding can be a pretty spectacular experience.

What makes a hotel luxurious or not, besides its facilities, is the uniqueness of its character. If you intend to make the most of the facilities and revel in the character of your accommodation then you should be looking at staying in a boutique hotel.
